BATAVIA, IL – The Batavia Bulldogs punched their ticket to the IHSA Class 7A Semifinals on Saturday, November 15, 2025, defeating the Glenbard North Panthers 42-27 in a high-stakes quarterfinal matchup at home.
The Bulldogs, entering the game with a 9-2 record and a prior 41-13 victory against the Panthers earlier in the season, extended their win streak to seven games. Glenbard North (8-3) came into the contest motivated by a chance for revenge, relying on their impressive ground game, which averaged over 220 rushing yards per game.
Batavia set the tone early in the first quarter, opening the scoring with a touchdown from senior wide receiver Brett Berggren (#11), followed by a successful extra point from senior kicker Caleb Peters (#17). Glenbard North quickly answered, tying the game at 7-7 when Senior Zechariah Morris (#1) found the endzone. However, the Bulldogs immediately reclaimed the lead with a touchdown from junior Thomas Prescott (#3), ending the first quarter with a 14-7 advantage.
The second quarter saw the Batavia offense continue to press the issue. Berggren scored his second touchdown of the game early in the period, and senior Preston Brummel (#36) added another score minutes later, pushing Batavia’s lead to 28-7. Brummel was captured leaping into the endzone for his second-quarter score, extending the Bulldog’s commanding lead. Glenbard North managed to narrow the deficit before halftime with a touchdown from senior Donato Gatses (#22), bringing the score to 28-14 at the break.
Panthers Fight Back, Bulldogs Respond
In the third quarter, the Panthers showed resilience. After a GBN timeout, they scored a crucial touchdown to pull within a single possession, making the score 28-21. Junior Anthony Gibson (#7) successfully converted the extra point for Glenbard North.
Batavia responded with a monumental play late in the third. Senior Andrew Culotta (#23) broke free for a massive touchdown run that ignited a massive crowd reaction from the Batavia student section. The score, coupled with Peters’ extra point, shifted the momentum back to the Bulldogs, ending the third quarter at 35-21.
Glenbard North’s Gatses scored his second touchdown early in the fourth quarter. However, the Panthers’ subsequent two-point conversion attempt failed, keeping the score at 35-27.
Batavia sealed their victory midway through the final frame with a definitive touchdown from senior Henry Hahn (#28). Teammate #58 was seen lifting Hahn in celebration following the score. The final extra point from Peters made the score 42-27, which stood as the final. The game was called with 31.631 seconds remaining on the clock.
The Bulldogs’ victory sends them into the Class 7A Semifinals, marking a successful defense of their home turf against a persistent Glenbard North squad. Their next opponent is St. Rita Highschool who scored 56-42 against Hersey High School.
