DuKane Conference Football: Batavia Closes Out Senior Night with 31-13 Victory over St. Charles East

											Batavia IL – The Batavia Bulldogs closed out their Senior Night with a decisive 31-13 victory over the St. Charles East Fighting Saints, securing a DuKane Conference win at Bulldog Stadium. The atmosphere was celebratory for the home team’s seniors, with the mild, breezy weather adding to the perfect Friday night setting.
Batavia established an early lead, scoring a touchdown in the first quarter to go up 7-0.
The second quarter saw both teams trade blows. With 3:18 remaining before halftime, St. Charles East put together a successful drive. Quarterback #2 Cruz Herrera connected with #1 Gavin Matejko from the 30-yard line for a crucial touchdown. St. Charles East’s #8 Ryan Possin then successfully converted the extra point, narrowing Batavia’s lead to 7-7.
A timeout was called immediately after the Saints’ score. When play resumed, the Batavia offense delivered a lightning-fast answer. In an impressive display of breakaway speed, Quarterback #8 Michael Vander Luitgaren handed the ball to senior #11 Brett Berggren. Berggren broke free from Batavia’s own 20-yard line and ran an approximate 80 yards to the opposing end zone for a momentum-shifting touchdown. Senior kicker #17 Caleb Peters successfully converted the extra point, swinging the score back to a dominant 14-7 lead for Batavia, which they quickly extended with another score before the half.
The third quarter saw both teams battling fiercely. St. Charles East scored their second touchdown of the night but missed the extra point, bringing the score to 28-13 at the end of the third.
In the fourth quarter, Batavia secured the victory. Senior kicker #17 Caleb Peters put the final points on the board with a field goal. Any hopes of a St. Charles East comeback were then squashed when senior #23 Andrew Culotta made a crucial interception, allowing the Bulldogs to run out the remaining time.

The Batavia Bulldogs will compete in a pivotal game next week as they travel for an away game against Wheaton Warrenville South.
