Batavia Tops Glenbard East 42-21, Advances to Class 7A Quarterfinals
LOMBARD, IL – The Batavia Bulldogs defeated the Glenbard East Rams 42-21 on Friday night to secure their place in the IHSA Class 7A Quarterfinals. Batavia built a substantial lead in the first half through a versatile offensive performance, while Glenbard East’s offense found success in the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-14 after the break.
Batavia’s offense started strong, scoring four unanswered touchdowns in the first half to establish a 28-0 lead. The scoring began with a touchdown run by Preston Brummel (#36). The Bulldogs then relied on a combination of ground and air scores, with running back Henry Hahn (#28) adding his first touchdown, followed by two critical scores from wide receivers Darin Ashiru (#0) and Brett Berggren (#11). Kicker Caleb Peters (#17) was consistent, converting all four extra points.
The Bulldogs scored again early in the third quarter, extending the lead to 35-0 on a second touchdown by Darin Ashiru (#0).
The Rams’ offense, led by their high-scoring passing attack, mounted a significant push in the final two quarters. Glenbard East broke the shutout with a touchdown late in the third quarter, and their scoring continued into the fourth. The Rams put 21 points on the board after halftime, with touchdowns scored by Henry Benka (#13) and Lucas Freese (#5), confirming the explosive potential the team carried into the playoffs. Kicker Moises Velazquez (#49) was successful on all three of the Rams’ extra point attempts.
Batavia maintained control late in the game, however, with Henry Hahn (#28) scoring his second touchdown of the evening with just 3:24 left on the clock, pushing the score to 42-14 and cementing the victory. The final score settled at 42-21 after the late Glenbard East touchdown.
The Batavia Bulldogs improve their record and advance to the Quarterfinals to face the winner of the Moline vs. Glenbard North contest.
