Wheaton Lights Up the Sky: Rescheduled 4th of July Fireworks and Drone Show Draws Thousands to Graf Park

GMedia Community Reporting | July 12, 2026

WHEATON, IL — The night sky over Graf Park illuminated on Sunday evening as the Wheaton Park District successfully hosted its rescheduled Independence Day Festivities, Fireworks, and Drone Show. The grand finale event, which drew crowds from across DuPage County, took place on July 12 after severe weather forced the cancellation of the original July 3 holiday weekend schedule.

The celebration commenced at 6:00 PM with an array of family-friendly entertainment, games, giveaways, and local food vendors including Kori’s Koop, Barrio Smashburger, and Serna’s Grill. Despite minor logistical adjustments necessitated by ongoing construction at the adjacent Monroe Middle School, pedestrian traffic and parking procedures proceeded smoothly as residents filled the park grounds with lawn chairs and blankets.

The main event commenced promptly at 9:15 PM, combining traditional pyrotechnics with advanced aerial technology. The Wheaton Park District coordinated a dedicated drone light show that ran in seamless tandem with the high-altitude fireworks display, presenting dynamic glowing formations to honor the national milestone.

The combined display lasted approximately 20 minutes, culminating in a heavy-impact pyrotechnic finale that drew widespread applause from the thousands in attendance.

With local municipalities across northern Illinois facing similar weather-related disruptions over the Fourth of July weekend, Wheaton’s successful Sunday night makeup date provided a welcomed and highly attended mid-July community celebration.
