Distance Madness Meet at Batavia High School Shatters Records with 109 Schools and 5,000 Viewers

Batavia, IL – The annual Distance Madness Meet at Batavia High School delivered a night of thrilling competition, record-breaking performances, and unprecedented online engagement. With over 100 schools represented, the event showcased some of Illinois’ top distance runners, solidifying its reputation as one of the premier early-season meets in the Midwest.

Among the standout performances, Allison Shutler (St. Ignatius) dominated the Girls’ 800m, clocking 2:13.26 to claim IL #2 and US #47 for the season. On the boys’ side, Jackson Summy (Lakes) took the 800m title in 1:56.19, securing an IL #5 ranking.

In the 3200m, Tommy Nitz (Huntley) stole the show with a blazing 9:05.30, earning IL #2 and US #14 honors. The girls’ race was equally exciting, with Meg Peterson (Prospect) running a PR of 10:44.25, now ranked IL #5 and US #53.

Beyond the competition, the meet set a new milestone for Batavia High School’s “Bulldog Media Team,” as their live feed was viewed by a record-breaking 5,000 viewers. The event’s widespread reach further cements Distance Madness as a must-watch meet for track and field fans.

With personal records dropping across multiple events, this year’s Distance Madness Meet proved to be a launchpad for Illinois’ top talent. As the outdoor season heats up, these athletes have set the tone for what promises to be an exciting year on the track.
